The three state supreme court
judges who attended a dinner in their
honor Thursday night in the Hotel
Ramsey narrowly escaped death on
their way to Redwood Falls when the
machine in which they were riding
left the highway between St. Paul
and Rosemount and rolled over twice.
The three justices were John P.
Devaney, Julius J. Olson, and Clifford
Hilton. Driving the car was James
Cooney, secretary to associate justice
Charles Loring.
Mr. Cooney tried to pass another
machine but the two cars touched,
Cooney losing control of the wheel.
The justices' car went over the edge
of a six foot ditch, rolling over twice
and coming to rest right side up in
the opposite direction from which
they were traveling. None of the oc-
cupants of the car was even scratch-
ed.
The chief justice caught a ride to
Rochester where he was to fill a
speaking engagement while the oth-
ers returned to St. Paul and joined
him later in the day at Redwood
Falls.
