MAN CHARGED WITH THEFT TRIED TO ESCAPE—SAW REVOLVER AND STOPPED
Constable Charles Stevens and his deputies arrested Pedro Guerra at 2 o'clock Sunday morning on South Laredo street on a charge of theft by bailee of a sum of money over $50.
It appears that S. Benal gave Guerra $75 last December to go to a local express office and send it to his mother. That was the last, he charges, he saw of Guerra, and as his parent did not receive the money, Benal made an affidavit against Guerra charging him with theft.
Guerra returned to San Antonio Saturday, and the officers located him at a house on South Laredo. When Constable Stevens reported at the front door, Guerra made a break for the rear to escape, but looked down the muzzle of a pistol in the hands of Deputy Constable A. Newton, Jr. He surrendered.
He waived examination this morning before Justice Fisk and was remanded back to jail in default of $500 to await the action of the grand jury.
