DISCUSS CONTRACTS
Lincoln School Board Purposes to Guard Against Emergencies
Lincoln, Sept. 25.--Expressing a desire to avoid recurrence of the situation created by the unexpected resignation of Supt. J. H. Newlon last summer, members of the Lincoln school board are seeking to formulate a contract with their newly elected superintendent, M. C. Lefler, that will be satisfactory to both parties.
It is understood the salary named will be $5,500. Mr. Lefler says he hesitates to give up a business which promises certain definite advancement for a professional offer of only one year's tenure. E. E. Henkle, member of the board, is opposed to any contract. George Woods favors one for one year. N. Z. Snell, president of the board, believes politics may be injected into the situation unless the superintendent is engaged for longer than one year.
If a contract should be granted Mr. Lefler states he is willing that it should contain a clause permitting the board by unanimous vote to dismiss him if his services shall be found unsatisfactory, as well as the clause contained in the contract given Fred M. Hunter, that a request in release could be granted only by unanimous vote of the board. In the case of Mr. Newlon the vote was not unanimous but his contract did not contain the clause requiring that unanimity.
