PRIVATE CAPITAL WILLING TO COMPLETE
ALASKA-MEXICO HIGHWAY IF GOVERNMENTS
FAIL ON FINANCE PLAN, DECLARES
HILL

OLYMPIA, Wash., Nov. 13.-If
the governments of the United
States and Canada are unable to
devise a workable plan for the financing of the proposed extension
of the international highway from
British Columbia into Alaska, private capital is ready and willing to
carry the project to completion
Samuel Hill, noted good roads enthusiast, in an address before members of the state highway patrol,
stated.

Mr. Hill also predicted a highway
from the heart of Mexico to the
interior of Alaska will be a reality in five years.

A group of Eastern capitalists are
prepared to spend up to $20,000,000
on the construction of the road into
Alaska, Hill said. A tentative organization has already been formed
and the capital pledged, he added.

Concession Rights Sought
The group proposes to construct
the road, provided it is given the
concession rights for resorts along
the route of the highway, the
speaker explained.

The plan embraces an amortization program, the
builders turning the road over to
the public after the investment has
been returned in the form of profits from the concessions, Hill said.
