Another Federal Electioneering Lie.
WHEN any important election is about to take place, we are told from Federal authority, some frightful bug-bear story. Who does not recollect the account of the Ship Ocean-The frightful tale of the Tubs- and the story of the President's ordering the arms and military stores from Springfield to the Southward, and a thousand more falsehoods propagated to answer electioneering purposes? A new story is now told from the same authority, to answer the same purposes.-The story is that a French Fleet of 25 sail of the line have arrived in Chesapeake bay, and have demanded, or are going to demand of our government six millions of dollars! -The truth is, no French fleet have arrived in any part of the United States. The Story is a downright falsehood--nor is there any more fear of one for any hostile purpose, than there is that a fleet will come from the Moon. Very probably the French general in the West-Indies may send vessels here to purchase provisions, and grain for his army.
We sincerely hope he will--it will raise their price, and be a very happy thing for our farmers who have them for sale-besides that they are coming to menace our government, could never have originated in any other thing but what is called a federal head.
