New-York, May 16.

Immediately after the liberation of Mr. Gray the American consul at the Havanna, the Americans at that place gave him an excellent entertainment, when a very affectionate address was presented to him, in which they expressed their usual confidence in him; and while they perceived the most public spirited and disinterested motives influenced his conduct: they were equally fixed in the belief, that in no instance whatever, had he given just cause to the Spanish government for even a suspicion of a breach of its laws; and they lament the hasty steps taken against him—so injurious to him—and so detrimental to commerce, and their common country. They offer him the continuance of their support under all circumstances; and of their best wishes for his happiness and welfare. The address is Signed by John Morton, Nathaniel Fellows, jun. John Murdock, James Gorham, Edward Landels, Amos Greene, James Perry, and F. B. Russell, a committee in behalf of American merchants and masters of vessels. Mr. Gray's answer was grateful and firm.
