Missouri Slope Fair officials have definitely abandoned plans for holding the annual slope event at Mandan this year, members of the fair association declared today. Faced by multiplying deficits and lacking the regular state appropriation, the slope fair will not take place for the first time in nearly 20 years, it was announced.
Mandan business men will stage a harvest festival during the latter part of August which will last two days, it was stated at the Mandan Commercial club. Several of the regular fair attractions will be missing, including horse racing, according to information received at the commercial club.
Mandan civic leaders had planned to use the profits expected to be made on the Mandan Roundup to put the fair across. Results of the roundup show a deficit of nearly $1,000. This definitely blocked possibility of holding the Missouri Slope Fair.
Farmers throughout Burleigh, Morton, and Oliver counties will be invited to enter exhibits at the Mandan harvest festival, it was stated. The list of prizes will be limited, however, according to plans revealed today.
