Full Text

Constantinople, Aug. 4. Above 70,000 People have already been destroyed by the Plague in this City and the neighbouring Islands, nor do its Ravages in the least abate, though we comforted ourselves in such a happy Consequence of the late terrible Conflagration on the 19th ult. by which 4000 Houses were laid in Ashes. The Imperial Envoy has, by Instruction, desired our Ministry not to be offended at any strict Precautions used on the Borders to prevent the Communication of such a dreadful Evil; to which he had this satisfactory Answer, that no Precautions which were expedient could be too strict.
