TAX SALE LIST
REVISED THIS WEEK

A revised list of real property to be sold at sales on October 22 and October 23 appears in this week's issue of The Frontiersman. To ascertain if additional parcels have been paid up Tax Assessor William Wakeland said it will be necessary to call at his office or attend the sale.

A question frequently asked said Wakeland, is whether or not a person buying a tract at the sale can erect a house on it during the two year redemption period. He explained that the law states the individual has a right to the rents, royalties, or use of the land and that he shall be reimbursed by the redemptioner for what he paid at the sale, plus 15 per cent interest on the amount of the lien, plus all taxes paid.

There is no mention made of adding improvements, he pointed out, and advises buyers to erect nothing he cannot move off, until he receives the deed at the end of the two year period.

Another question concerns the status of other liens on the property, Wakeland reported. A lien is not a lien until it is recorded he said, so anyone can check at the U. S. Commissioner's office.

However, he added, should a lien be overlooked, the holder of the lien must either make a settlement with the buyer, or foreclose it by redeeming the property.

Thus, the buyer at a tax sale is protected, Wakeland stated.

It is the understanding of the assessor that after the two year redemption period no old liens are valid.

The tax sales are to be held in the basement of the city hall, with the City of Palmer sale scheduled for October 22 at 10 a.m. and the Palmer Independent School District sale on October 23 at the same hour.
