RUSH TO LAND OFFICE

Officials at Rapid City Crowded with Work for Landseekers.

Land business at Rapid City shows no letup, and the rush for homes in that part of the state is unprecedented. So great has the volume of daily new business become that even with the additional new office help furnished by the government to the United States land office at Rapid City, the office has been unable to keep up its regular correspondence and has been forced to notify patrons through the papers that until more help is secured correspondence will only be answered when its turn comes, which is usually three weeks after receipt. During the month of April 280,000 acres of land were taken up, and the total number of entries was 1,537. Of this amount 1,226 were original entries. Desert land entries and commuted homesteads also run up the figures.
