CAUSED A CROWD TO CHEER
Men Who Say They're School Teachers Locked Up on a Disorderly Charge.

George Haupt, 25 years old, and Henry Burger, 25, who said they were school teachers living at 156 and 160 Diamond street, Brooklyn, were locked up in the Union Market police station last night charged with disorderly conduct.

Policeman Barnes, who made the arrest, entered a lengthy complaint. His report reads:

Charged with causing a crowd to collect in front of 655 Fifth street, demanding that the officer arrest a boy who they claimed had struck them with a baseball in the street and being unable to point out or describe the boy; using profane language and refusing to move on when ordered, and daring the officer to arrest them, which caused the crowd to cheer.

There are teachers named Haupt and Burger in Public School 22 at Stanton and Sheriff streets. When the prisoners were brought before Sergeant Butler, Haupt handed him a card, which read:

Burger & Haupt, counsellors at law, 225 William street.

Shortly after their arrest the school teachers were bailed out by Jacob Guck, of 291 Seventh street. Haupt and Burger were said to be members of the Federal Club, the Republican organization of the Sixteenth Assembly district. It was said at the club that they had been there early in the evening, but that they were no longer members of the club, having given up their membership when they moved to Brooklyn.
