Full Text
The Republicans and Democrats in the Legislature of New Jersey are equally strong. A Governor and U. S. Senator are to be chosen. Who is to yield? Candor would say concession was as much to be expected from one side as the other. The eyes of the people have been upon them. In whom have they discovered a conciliating disposition tho' possessed of equal power?
In the Federal Republicans; they offered to choose Mr. Bloomfield, U. S. Senator, who would be so for 6 years; if their opponents would elect Mr. Stockton Governor, who would be so but for one year, unless re-elected by the next Court. But no, the amicable Democrats would fill both offices, or they should remain vacant!
