The Late City Treasurer's Defalcation.
For the Gazette.

Is it not strange that after so many announcements of the wonderful investigations now going on in regard to the accounts of the late Treasurer the citizens can learn nothing? The learned accountant stated that the deficiency was $6,200, nearly all during the first year. He told one of the sureties that there was about $600 during the first year. He said that he knew exactly the time when errors occurred. Now the Republican says that the work is enormous and the delay unavoidable.

If Killgore was a defaulter the first year, why was he forced on the city for a second term? Why was he allowed to act for six months without any security? Are Finance Committee-men dummies and figure heads, and Auditor's statements and receipts humbugs?
