Before Esquire Meacham.—A man by the name of James Decosey, an Irishman, living on Front street was arraigned before Esquire Meacham yesterday, charged with shooting his wife, and in default of bail, of the sum of $2,000, was sent to jail. From the fact the act was committed on Tuesday evening last, and was kept a profound secret, even from his next door neighbors, until the wound, which had not been dressed until yesterday evening, assumed such a malignant type as force him to call in a physician, it is evident that the most villainous motives prompted the committal of the deed. He claims to have done it accidentally but took care to let no one know of the serious accident until the great sufferings of his wife forced her to send for a physician. Hence those living near them were satisfied as to his murderous intentions and had him arrested. Dr. Conwell, who was the physician called in, thinks that there is hope for her recovery, if she is properly cared for.
