The following is copied from the Merchants' Daily Advertiser of January 31, printed at Philadelphia:
Intelligence of a highly interesting nature to our government has been received within a few days from Europe; we cannot pretend to be acquainted with the secret operations of foreign governments, nor have we any other authority for assuming what the matter in question really is, than what arises from the analogy of facts known, with the course and time of the present circumstances, and the probability of the measures we surmise.
We understand that the information received comes circuitously from Paris, and we thence conclude that as the French government have already suspended their diplomatic connection near the United States, that they have also refused to accept Mr. Pinckney; upon these conjectures, and which we offer only as such, our readers will form their own opinion; it may be reasonably supposed that if such an event has really taken place, it will be speedily communicated to the Legislature.
