Not a Practical Politician.
Senator Depew addressed Yale students a few days ago, his subject being politics. His speech was pitched in a high key, and some of his auditors took note of this fact. "That was a beautiful speech, senator," said a reckless junior in the evening. "But we feel ourselves incapable of applying your theories to actual life. Won't you give us a footnote—something, senator, if you please, on practical politics?"
But the Roman-featured statesman answered only:
"Good Lord! That's not in my line. You should call on the highest living authority—Thomas C. Platt."
