Meeting Will Bring
A Better Understanding

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Kennedy today expressed hope that his conference with Soviet Premier Khrushchev next month will lead to a better understanding between the United States and the Soviet Union.

Andrew T. Hatcher, assistant White House secretary, told reporters that Kennedy informed the Soviet journalists he is "hopefully looking forward" to the face-to-face meeting with Khrushchev in Vienna June 3-4.

Twelve Soviet editors, nearing the end of a tour of the country, called on Kennedy. Two Washington reporters for Tass, the Soviet News Agency, joined them, but no U. S. newsmen were admitted.

The Soviet newsmen leave Washington for New York Tuesday to finish their three-week visit. A delegation from ASNE will visit the Soviet Union in August.
