2. The Spanish fleet arrived at Naples the 5th.—The Leeward Island fleet was separated in a gale of wind the 8th of September, in latitude 49.
3. The Kennington man of war, from Cork, is arrived with the convoy at Gibraltar. - Three French men of war attempted lately to sail from Brest but were driven back. into the Downs two Dutch ships, having The Portmahon man of war has bro't on board 11 large pieces of cannon and 50 rounds of shot. The Expedition, Fear, and Prince of Prussia, Herbert, both from St. Kitt's, the True Briton transport, and a sloop from Guadaloupe, all for London, foundered at sea.
5. The Burford man of war is arrived at Plymouth. -- It is said the Leeward Island fleet have been seen off Mount's Bay -- Some overtures for peace are said to be sent by the court of Spain.
6. The Success, Glarman, from Newfoundland, and a sloop, from New York to Venice, are carried into Vigo. -- The king of Spain was proclaimed the 9th past at Madrid.
8. There has been a smart engagement between the Prussians, (under Generals Finck and Wunch) and the Austrians near Dresden, in which the Prussians had greatly the advantage. -- Prince Henry has destroyed several of the Austrian magazines. -- The West India fleet is arrived. -- Letters from Holland say, the French are full of the intended invasion.
9. Com. Reynolds, with three ships of the line and seven frigates, are cruising not far from Port L'Orient. -- Orders are sent for a large number of troops to be quartered along the coast. -- The Fountain, from Carolina, is arrived at Lisbon, being ransomed for £1250.
10. The Admiral Watson, from Bengal, is arrived at Spithead; she left the Worcester, the True Briton, Bombay Castle, and Prince George, at St. Helena the 8th of August. The French had besieged Madras 66 days, but were obliged to quit it with all their cannon, small arms, &c. They lost 300 officers and 1500 Europeans; and, it is said, Adm. Pocock had again beat their fleet, which was obliged to sail for the isle of Bourbon, and that their affairs in India were very bad. -- Prince Henry was marching to besiege Dresden, and had defeated a corps under General Wehla.
11. There is a report, that prince Henry has defeated another body of Austrians, under M. de Valles, and taken 2000 prisoners.
12. Orders are sent to Woolwich to get ready 60 pieces of cannon, with a sufficient train. -- The new king of Spain's eldest son is declared not capable of succeeding to the throne, his second son is declared prince of Asturias, and his third to be king of the Two Sicilies.
13. It is said the French have 313 boats at Havre, to carry 300 men each; but that several regiments had mutinied, and refused to embark.
