Wolverines To: Visit Albany, Fort Valley Today, Wednesday
By JOEL W. SMITH
Morris Brown College's Purple Wolverines play their first two games of the New Year before a hometown crowd Saturday, January 14 and Monday, January 16, when they match shots with the Clark College Panthers and Florida A&M Rattlers, at the Joe Louis Gymnasium.
Back from Tuskegee, Ala., where they came to grips with the Tuskegee Institute Golden Tigers Saturday night, the Morris Brown hoopsters romped through light drills Monday and then headed for Albany, Ga. to go against the Albany State College Rams today; and en route home will pair off with the Fort Valley State College Wildcats Wednesday.
When the Red and Black Clark Panthers play host to the Wolverines it Saturday night, both quints will be playing their second game in the city championship series.
EXPECT BANNER CROWDS FOR BOTH CONTESTS
Banner crowds are expected for both the Clark and Florida A & M contests. Hardwood rivalry between the Wolverines and Panthers has always been keen and this meeting will hardly be an exception. In the first place, the Red and Black Panthers will be striving to get back in the battle for city laurels after bowing to the Morehouse Maroon Tigers, 56-42, Friday night.
It is generally known that the Panthers have lots of finesse and know-how, although they failed to hit their stride against the Maroon Tigers. Then too, one must keep in mind the fact that the Maroon Tigers have made remarkable strides since dropping a 73-39 decision to the Purple Wolverines early in December.
Coach William T. Greene will be banking on Erwin Ross, Clifton Pettiford, James Scott, Julius Myers, Randolph Flagg Robert Barnett, James Wright, Wilbert Smith, William Hannan, Charles Geer Lynn Ross Joe Monroe and Selbert Moton.
Coach Leonidas S. Epps will rely on Henry Clark, Joe Carter, Bobby Watkins, Walter Simpson, Jerome Jenkins John Bryant Charlie Smith, Carl Seldon, Lowell Dickerson, Samuel Brown, Aaron Woodall, John Nunnally Theordis Norton and Charles Benford.
