A People's Ticket, in
Whatcom County.

Dear Editor Enterprise:-

The People's Convention of Whatcom County held at Ferndale School House, on Wednesday, Oct. 8, to which the Rev. Gille in last week's issue refers sarcastically as being a fizzle, was attended by upwards of thirty voters, and participated in by a number of the best citizens of Whatcom county, notwithstanding the muddy roads and heavy rain that continued all day.

This convention was called because of a bitter feeling existing among a large number of our best Citizens against Dr. Magruder the Republican candidate for the legislature, who is the choice of the saloon and gambling interests of the town of Whatcom, aided and abetted by the character of the Rev. Gille, but who in no sense represents the moral and respectable sentiments of Whatcom, Skagit and San Juan counties, and moreover is not the choice of the women voters, which constitute one half the population, and have a right to be consulted as to who shall represent their interests in the Legislature of the Territory.

The People's Convention nominated for Representative to the Legislature, Rev. Joseph Wolfe of Whatcom, a lifelong Republican, and a man who commands the respect, and would creditably represent the interests of the entire community.

Mr. Wm. Coombs, the Independent candidate for County Treasurer was endorsed, and also the Democratic nominee for County Assessor.

The balance of the ticket recognized the men nominated by the Republican party.

Hence the Peoples ticket will be all Republican except the Assessor.

Mr. Wolfe has not signified whether he will run for the office.
