Spirit of the Russians.—A Russian writing to the Independence Belge, closes his communication in the following strains: "We accept the war and challenge which England has flung to us. Our confidence in events and in the future is greater than you suppose; and if, after the taking of Sebastopol, they come to make us propositions of peace which are not worthy of Russia, we will answer what General Koutousoff said to M. de Lauriston, after the taking of Moscow, when the French General wished to enter into negotiations: 'But you are joking, General; the war has now for us only just commenced.'"
