Left a Letter For His Mother Telling Her Why He Did It.
Chicago, March 7.-Harry Trent, of London, England, committed suicide early to-day by jumping into the river from the Clark street bridge.
George E. Beban, an actor, who was on his way to his hotel, jumped in after Trent, and was nearly drowned in a vain attempt to save the young Englishman's life.
Before leaping off the railing Trent carefully placed his mackintosh and hat upon the bridge.
In the pockets of the mackintosh the police found a letter addressed to his mother, Mrs. Anna Trent, 64 Charing Cross Road, London, England.
In the letter Trent said:
"For the last week I have been wandering around Chicago penniless.
What was left of my father's fortune, instead of using to better advantage, I have gambled on the races."
