Our Glory And Our Pride
TO S. R. C.
Among us seldom comes an agency with more deserving
than that haven and humane hostelry, the YWCA. This excellent
institution, which is doing an excellent work in our ranks might
seldom be heard from, nevertheless she is on the forefront making
her contribution to the recreational, civic and cultural relations
of this community.
The fine young woman, giving their lives and talents to this
magnificent effort, largely on a free gratis basis are not without
that acknowledgement of a debt that can never be paid.
During the summer months of sight-seers and tourists, the
YWCA will be a mecca for those seekers of retreats of wholesome-
ness.
The YWCA has won its spurs and made its friends purely
upon the grounds of an unselfish service. Its emphasis in the
community, its mission of service and the name of that pioneer
poetess, Phyllis Wheatley, it proudly bears, greets of ever
increasing brilliance as her ship tours the seas of our times.
Dear YWCA we come to thee,
Thy daughters faithful true,
Upon these commons of the free
To share the sod and dew.
Dear YWCA a poetess came
And walked down here in black
To leave for thee a hallowed name
That fled a bended back.
