A. F. Roberts, Sudlersville, Saves Self From Serious Injuries
Knocked down by an infuriated bull on his farm adjoining Sudlersville, Austin F. Roberts, prominent farmer, was badly cut and bruised Wednesday evening about 6:30 o'clock. But for his own plucky fight against the animal and the help of Calvin Marvel, a tenant on the farm, Mr. Roberts probably would have been fatally wounded.
Entering the field Mr. Roberts discovered that the animal was on a rampage. Almost without warning and with terrific ferocity, the bull charged and knocked the farmer down. With pluck and rare presence of mind, Mr. Roberts grasped the animal by the nostrils and horns until Mr. Marvel arrived with a pitchfork. William Roberts, a son, also came to the rescue, and finally the three men succeeded in driving the animal off. Mr. Roberts was removed to the office of Dr. C. H. Metcalfe, who treated painful cuts and bruises about the stomach, shoulders and face. No bones were broken.
