Kennedy Taken After Reported Brief Absence

The worried faces that have peeked cautiously into dark corners late at night may smile again with relief the fear, that fear that come to hearts of many on January 7 when a gaunt solemn face was flashed on the front page of the Atlanta Daily World can subside.

Jesse "Big Man" Kennedy came back to the city, and 'never-give-up' sleuths have smoked him out. He's in jail.

Kennedy, formerly a resident of 1325 Westview Drive, S. W., was arrested at 6:30 p. m. yesterday after he walked in a wine shop near Butler St., and Forrest Ave, N. E.

And the man, who was once convicted of murder and later charged with inflicting rape-robbery and assault on at least 30 Atlanta women, while an estimated 60 cases remained unsolved, surrendered to Detectives L. N. Bradley and George Shorady meekly and without a struggle.

shots by 26 Atlanta women who had
been assaulted in "Lovers Lane"
areas near West Lake Avenue, Lincoln
Country Club, Turner High
School and Hunter Road

These attacks had apparently
been going on for over a year, with
many of the victims white couples

Police were often hampered because
couples had failed to report the at-
tacks, and police, in an attempt to
corner him, suffered a shot-up auto
before the affair was made known.

Detectives C. L. Adams, Sgt. Geo.
Christian and Detective R. A. Boone
never despaired apprehending Ken-
nedy, even after he was indicted
and reportedly left town.

His apprehension came upon the
call of an informant two weeks af-
ter he returned from Cincinnati
Ohio, where he was previously
caught when he broke out of pris-
on after conviction for murder.

Officers, questioning Kennedy
said he denied part in the crimes
and insisted he had not shot up a
police car
