TOM LYNCH'S METHOD OF HANDLING BALL PLAYERS.

"When I managed the New Britain club in the Connecticut league," says President Tom Lynch, "all of my men weren't blue ribbon boys. We had been having a terrible slump, and I took hold of the team as a last resort. How did we make such a showing in a month?" said Lynch recently, "capturing ten double headers out of twenty-five games? Well, I'll reveal the secret. Some of them liked their bottle of beer, and they particularly enjoyed it on a hot day.

"My boys would win the first game of a double header, and then I would let them go to the clubhouse, where I had installed an icebox, in which there were several bottles of beer on ice.

"The players who wanted to indulge in the beverage that made Milwaukee famous could do so without being fined by the manager, who was myself."
