MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS.

Under the head of Horrors of Intemperance, the Frankfort (Ky.) Commentator details a case, in which a citizen and father of a family met his death by the hands of his fellow man. Two persons, Parker and Asberry, had met at a tavern, near the forks of Elkhorn; they had become "excited" by liquor, and fell into a dispute about a penknife. One said the other had his knife, which was denied in abusive terms, and a scuffle ensued; but the combatants were parted. One of them then left the tavern, and, providing himself with a club, waited the approach of his opponent who had to pass that way on his return home. As soon as the latter passed the former pursued him and inflicted a fatal blow on his head while in the act of mounting a fence to escape his pursuer. The wounded man (Asberry) died shortly after. What adds to the horror of the scene—the wife and children of the deceased were witnesses of it—having been among those who first rushed to the spot, when the murderous attack was made.
