LONDON, December 18.

On Wednesday evening, about five o'clock, a Lady and her daughter, a girl of ten years of age, were stopped in a hack by five footpads near Chelsea; who, robbing them of their money, a watch, and earrings, not being contented with their booty, threatened to kill the lady, on which the child threw her arms about them, entreating them to spare her mother. One of the unfeeling villains then inhumanly struck the child several times over the head with the end of his pistol, by which the outward table of the skull was fractured, and she now lies dangerously ill. As soon as an account of this atrocious and cowardly offence was sent to John Fielding, that active magistrate dispatched some of his people in search of the robbers, and yesterday morning they met with a pawnbroker, who had taken in a satin cloak from a woman in Hogboy alley, which proved to belong to the unfortunate young Lady, and was stained in several places with her blood; and thence the villains were traced, and one of them apprehended last night, and committed from the publick office in Bow Street, for farther examination.
