In the northern part of Gibson county, nestling beneath the oaks and elms, going to decay, and fast crumbling to dust, is all that remains, of the former home of David Crockett.
It is a one-story log cabin, built in the primitive way, and might have been preserved indefinitely had any one interested himself in the patriot task.
It was in this cabin that the great backwoods man resided when he made his famous race for congress and was elected. and it was the home to which he returned when his stay at Washington was at an end.
A number of years ago reunions of Crockett's descendants were of yearly occurrence in Gibson county, and some of the great grandchildren from every part of the nation would assemble there and enjoy the exercises of those days but for the past year or so nothing of the kind has been attempted in that immediate section. as the interest in the memory of the great hunter and trapper seem to have waned.
There are a number of trees still standing in that county, one in particular near Trenton, from which it is known that David Crockett shot and killed bear.
