ANCHORAGE—Troops in Alaska are now officially known as the Alaska Defense Command, it was announced at headquarters.
The new name replaces three other designations which have been used at various times publicly and in official communications. They have been known as the Alaska Defense Force, the Alaska Defense Force, and the U. S. Troops in Alaska.
Fighting units of the Alaska Defense Command are under Lt. Gen. John DeWitt, Fourth Army commander. Administrative units are under Maj. Gen. E. D. Peek of the Ninth Corps Area, Brig. Gen. Simon B. Buckner, Jr., is the commanding general of the Alaska Defense Command.
