THE PUBLIC LEDGER

WEDNESDAY EVENING JANUARY 19, 1814

In our last paper under the head of Embargo, it is stated that the distance from North Landing to Kempsville is 18 miles we intended to have said 10 miles. We are since informed, from a very accurate survey lately made, the distance is little over eight miles thus more strongly showing that the benefits which a bountiful Providence has bestowed upon our country, are rendered of no advantage from the rash policy of our weak rulers. It would seem that nature had intended the shallow and dangerous navigation of North Carolina, for our benefit, whenever we should be (as we now are) at war with a superior Naval force.
