We have received the following note from 'Brutus,' which we lay before the public, together with his first article, with the remark, that his communication was received on Monday afternoon, in the midst of our preparations for the next morning's paper, and was hastily read, and the observation respecting it more hastily written. Had the word entire been omitted, our opinion of his object would appear to have been correct.
Messrs. Editors—
I see from your editorial remark, that you suppose the main object of Brutus' is to induce the formation of an 'entire new ticket,' which construction can only be put upon it by supposing Brutus' of the opinion that all the candidates were blockheads; which he neither believes or intimates, although he strongly hints that some of them are. The object, therefore, is to induce the Electors to vote for as many men of talents and integrity as are in nomination; and to supply the deficiency by those best qualified of the remaining candidates, regardless of party, &c.
BRUTUS.
