WASHINGTON - (INS) - Columnist-Broadcaster Walter Winchell receives two awards Monday at the Treasury Department's "Freedom Fair," in Arlington, Va.
Motion picture Actress Virginia Mayo will present a freedom of the Press Award to Winchell in recognition of his "contribution to the maintenance and continuance of a free press in America."
In addition to the Treasury Department citation, Winchell will also receive an Americanism award by the American Legion.
This award, to be presented by W. C. Daniel, Legion National Commander, will be given for his "efforts to promote a greater zeal of patriotism among our citizens and especially for his exposures of the iniquities of Communism."
