Johnnie Reid Sanders, 21-year-old slightly crippled man, is slated to go on trial today for the shotgun slaying of his attractive wife on September 2.
He will be tried in Fulton Superior Court before Judge Claude D. Shaw on a charge of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Mrs. Mary Ester Sanders, 21, a former "Miss Sepia Atlanta" contestant.
Mrs. Sanders was found dead in the kitchen of her home several hours after she returned from a Labor Day dance. She was lying on her back in a pool of blood and a .12 gauge shotgun was beside her, police said.
Det. H. Baugh said the young mother of two children was shot in the abdomen. A shotgun shell was found in the bedroom, he reported.
The victim worked at a Hunter Street restaurant and in 1955 she placed fourth in the Miss Sepia Atlanta beauty contest.
