Captain [illegible] met a sloop December, the wind at N. W. on the evening following, between 10 and 11 o'clock, being bright moonlight, under her mainsail and head of the square sail, ran down a large sloop, Timothy Pierce, master, from Fort Dauphin, belonging and bound to Rhode Island. She was lying to, about 3 leagues from Block Island; she sunk immediately, when the Capt. and crew, all but one man (who was sick in the cabin) saved themselves by catching hold of Captain Goodwin's shrouds. The cargo lost consisted of sugars, coffee, and molasses. The Captain had 200 half joes in his chest, which went down with the sick man, &c.
