Revenue Officers Also Find Suit to Be Pressed Covers Water Bottles Filled With Booze.
Suffolk, July 29.-Two men, a mule and buggy and a horse and buggy, with six water bottles full of fiery liquid, and a suitcase full of Monkey rum, are just some of the booty falling into the hands of Federal Officers Wagner and Duncan Friday morning after a weary wait on the road to Crittenden Wharf in Isle of Wight County.
Andrew Bailey, ambling to the wharf with two baskets of big red tomatoes in the foot of his buggy, was hailed and asked by the officers what he had.
"Just some tomatoes for the Newport News market."
The officers looked under the fruit, which was piled high, and found the suitcase full of Monkey rum. A ride to Bailey's home also disclosed the fact that there were four stills near it.
A little later, John H. Thomas came along with a horse and buggy. The end of a pasteboard box protruded from under the seat of the buggy.
"Give us a look--see," said the officers.
"Just a suit I am taking over to Newport News to have pressed," was Thomas' declaration.
The "suit" proved to be six water bottles full of liquor.
Bailey is now out under a $1,000 bond for his appearance at the next term of Federal Court, and John Thomas put up bail in the sum of $500 for his appearance.
