Full Text

Now, let any one ride along the Princeton road, where he can see the rotten posts supporting the wires of this line, and he will not be surprised that any heavy rain, or sleet, or hard wind, knocks down the wires. The whole line wants overhauling and repairing, and this is the season for doing it, so as to be prepared for the rough weather of winter.

But this is not the only reason there is so much complaint about this line. There is a want of accommodation, or laziness, or something worse, about the management, or certain of the operators, which needs correcting. We have been generally blessed with the right kind of operators here--skillful in their business and accommodating--but so it is not, we think, at all other places on the line. At least, there is but very little disposition whatever shown in any place on the line, but at the office here, to accommodate this community.

We have been laboring for nearly three years to get dispatches even in an irregular manner rather than not have them at all, for our paper--but in vain. We have offered high prices, and made appeals through influential sources, for the accommodation, not of this paper, so much as of the community-- but in vain. We have occasionally got dispatches for a few days at a time--and that's all. Several times we thought permanent arrangements had been completed, but they were never carried out.

Even at this time, when the whole population nearly, are looking for election returns, we have not been able to obtain an item scarcely by telegraph; and not giving telegraph news renders us liable to the charge of want of energy or liberality, or of rank negligence. We are not going to suffer patiently under any such charge--and what's more, we have ceased making further efforts for the present to get dispatches on this line--but we are just as determined to occasionally give our reasons why we have ceased making the application. We may soon have the pleasure of introducing to our readers by name, one or two persons connected with the line.
