By a Gentleman just arrived from Ireland we are informed, that the inhabitants of that kingdom are in the greatest consternation imaginable for fear of a visit from the Spaniards, and that many families of consequence near the sea-ports have retired to Dublin for their greater security. At present there are not 5000 troops in the whole kingdom, and the western part is defenceless, that an enemy has nothing to do but to land and conquer. Government, on such an emergency, implicitly trusting to the assurances of an Ambassador, should remember the voice of the old adage, "Live so with a friend, that you need not fear him as an enemy."
