Wednesday came to Port Royal, his Majesty's ship the Augusta, by whom we learn, that in their passage they chased a French Privateer of 14 guns, in shore, near Porto Prince, which was attacked by the admiral's tender, and the Augusta's boats; but the privateer's people getting on shore, and raising a battery, killed a Seaman, and Mr. Gray (an acting lieutenant) lost his right arm, of which wound he died shortly after; whereupon the tender and boats were immediately ordered off, and the Augusta went down to the admiral, that was cruising a few leagues distant, who immediately ordered the then commanding officer, lieutenant Johnson, to go and demolish the privateer, if possible; on which the Augusta was carried into four fathom water, when their cannon coming within execution, effectually destroyed her.
