OLYMPIA, Wash., Dec. 8. - Local rumor has it that Governor Mead has been asked to appoint Howard Cosgrove, son of the governor-elect, to the tax commission to fill the position made vacant several months ago by the resignation of J. H. Easterday of Tacoma. Commissioners Rockwell, of Spokane, and Frost of Ellensburg, or one of them, would probably lose their position if Cosgrove were named, as otherwise the west side would have no representation on the commission.
Rockwell, who was defeated by Poindexter for the republican nomination for congressman, is making a strong effort to retain his place and is receiving many endorsements. Frost expects to remain, but is not working so actively for retention. In the event Cosgrove is not named, Assessor Parrish of King county, is said to have the best endorsements, but Governor-elect Cosgrove probably has his personal friends slated for the place.
