Full Text
January Thaw.—We are now experiencing all the mildness peculiar to a regular January thaw, which is so suggestive of spring time with its April showers that bring to us the birth of the daisies. Over the hill tops the leaden clouds have been low down, while the "caw" of the raven comes to us from the woods, and snow-birds whirl in eddying flocks through the air. Snow is fast disappearing under the mildness. The sun is gaining strength as it slowly returns northward, and when its brightness is visible, its cheerful rays fall pleasantly everywhere, refreshing us with hope for the speedy return of the season of birds and blossoms. Slush will reign supreme for a season, and will be cheerfully endured, in anticipation of the coming brightness, when the streams will again be let free and all nature will bask in the glorious sunshine.
