CHARLESTON, (S. Carolina) July 30.
Mr. Webster, the ingenious author of the Grammatical Institute, has presented Mount Sion Society with three hundred copies of that valuable work, as a token of his good wishes towards the success of a society so promising of advantages to the rising generation. The present of a performance of so much merit and so well calculated to promote literature, which is the society's grand object; and the production of a native of America, in so early a period of her independence, must reflect the highest honour on the abilities and liberality of the author. and cannot fail to be peculiarly agreeable to the society, as well as beneficial to the infant seminary at Winnsborough, to the use of which the donation will be appropriated. The gentlemen, who superintend the education of youth in this city, have expressed their wishes that this work may be universally used in American schools.
