Lawrence Kerstetter, a member of the Social Studies department of East Hartford High School, has had an article published in a recent edition of 'Connecticut Teacher.'
Entitled "Anthropology in the Secondary School," the article tells how, for the past two years, selected students have investigated the family, the community, and other groups, using the rich material provided by anthropology.
"There was a rising tide," Mr. Kerstetter said, "of interest, enthusiasm, and work throughout the year." He also pointed out that, while this experimental course is no longer presented, still, many of the methods and some of the materials are being used to comprise a meaningful course in ancient history.
Principal Edward M. Dillon announced this ancient history course was added to the college preparatory curriculum this year. The three social studies teachers offering the course are John Tubiak, Howard Harvey, and Mr. Kerstetter. All have found the subject popular with the serious minded and capable students.
