Full Text
All sorts of stories have been afloat in regard to an application for pardon for Wm. E. Gould. At first it was reported that Governor Bodwell would be asked for a pardon immediately after entering upon the duties of his office. This rumor being summarily disposed of by a statement of the fact which everybody ought to have known before, that the Governor had nothing to do with it, it is now stated that President Cleveland will be appealed to. None of the zeal in the matter is attributed to Mr. Gould himself. If we may judge from his sayings and acts, he does not desire a pardon,—nor is there any apparent reason why he should be pardoned.
