The Community Chest-Council Saturday issued an Annual Report on how each dollar contributed in the 1956 fund-raising drive is being put to good use in 1957.
The report is presented in a rather unique way—directed to the public at large as "shareholders"—with each contribution made to the Community Chest last fall noted in the report as "your 1956 investment in the business of People Helping People"
Here are some of the highlights of the Community Chest 1956 Annual Report: one hundred seventy-eight thousand, seven hundred and forty-eight (178,748) contributors pledged two million, fifteen thousand, four hundred and fifty-four dollars ($2,015,454) of their money.... eleven thousand, seven hundred twenty (11,720) volunteers gave one hundred twenty-eight thousand, eight hundred (128,800) hours of their time (this figures out to sixteen thousand, one hundred (16,100) eight-hour working days, or 44 years) one hundred fifty-five thousand, eight hundred and sixty-five (155,865) people benefited directly and the entire community benefited indirectly, the report states.
Funds raised in last year's Community Chest drive are distributed among 42 different health, welfare and youth guidance services which help people in Fulton and DeKalb Counties.
The Annual Report shows a break-down of disbursements according to fields of service, which are child care, youth guidance, service to people in trouble the sick, and the aged, servicemen and women, the handicapped, and central services.
