Colonel Lockett to Assume Full Command in Colorado Coal Strike District.
REVIEWING SITUATION
Commander Arranges for Interviews With Strike Leaders and Other Parties.

Trinidad, Colo., May 5.-Colonel James Lockett, commanding the eleventh United States cavalry, arrived here at 7:40 this morning to take command of the federal forces in the Colorado strike fields. He was driven at once to army headquarters where he conferred with Major W. A. Holbrook on the strike situation.

The first troop train, carrying about 250 men, arrived shortly before 10 o'clock.

The second train was close behind it, and was expected to reach Trinidad before noon.

The Eleventh brought its horses and equipment, and was ready to go into active service.

Colonel Lockett spent most of the forenoon in conference with Major Holbrook at the temporary headquarters at the City hall.

The new commander of the federal forces in the state said he would not decide upon a definite plan of action until he had been fully informed as to the situation.

"I am new here and have come from a distant part of the country," he said. "Until Major Holbrook has put me fully in possession of the facts as to the situation, I can make no announcement of policy. Particularly, I can say nothing whatever regarding the matter of disarmament."

Colonel Lockett said he was taking up the matter of distributing his forces throughout the strike district. His own headquarters, he thought, would be at Trinidad. The colonel had arranged to grant interviews during the day to strike leaders and other parties to the labor war.
