GERMANS ORGANIZED.
Are Determined to Secure Political
Recognition.

Branches of the recently organized
Independent German Political association
have been formed in eleven wards
of the city and the organization has al-
ready become one of great strength.
It is such a political organization
being formed for the purpose of secur-
ing for the German element the po-
litical recognition which that nationality
claims. It is the intention of the pro-
moters to extend the organization to
every town and village of the county
and thus consolidate the 5,000 German
voters of Luzerne, who will make
themselves felt as a powerful political
organization.

Such a large body of citizens, the
leaders of the association claim, should
receive much more recognition from
the two great parties than is now re-
ceived. A prominent German in con-
versation with a reporter last evening
stated that the Germans are not politi-
cians, neither do they desire to be so
classed.
They should, however, he
said, be counted in the makeup of the
county tickets.
He referred to the
candidates now aspiring for places on
the Democratic and Republican tickets,
and stated that from present indica-
tions the Germans are not apt to re-
ceive much consideration. But before
many weeks the association will be in
position, continued the speaker, to
show that the candidate who does not
receive its support cannot hope to be
elected.
Should the organization ex-
tend only to the cities and principal
towns of the county the members feel
that it will hold the balance of power.
In some of the wards of the city the
association has almost 200 members.
and in none of them where a branch
exists has it less than fifty. Last
evening a branch was organized in the
Eighth ward. It starts out with a
healthy membership and it is expected
that it will be one of the leading clubs
in town. -Wilkes-Barre Times.
