Full Text
In the thunder gust and hail storm of Friday last, James Benedict, Esq. living near the village of Warwick, Orange county, lost three cows by a stroke of lightning. The cows were lying along a worm fence, in three of the successive turns or crooks, when struck. The hail, which was large and very ragged, cut up the small grain to a considerable extent. That branch, or vein, which passed thro' Amity, in Orange county, and extended itself into the northern part of New Jersey, was particularly severe and destructive. The loss to individuals was as unexpected as sudden. We understand that the glass, not only through which this vein passed, but in other places, not far remote, was principally, if not wholly broken on the windward side of the houses. Some of the hail-stones were described to us as being, in appearance, similar to that of large icicles broken short, in pieces from one to two inches in length.
