Premiums Offered

The chief prizes are $1,500 for the best carload exhibit and $1,000 for the best individual exhibit by any grower, district, county, state or province. There are also several hundred prizes ranging from $500 to $10, and hundreds of trophies, medals, ribbons, diplomas and special awards. These will be awarded by the foremost experts of the United States, Canada and Europe, acting as judges. These will be nominated by the departments of agriculture at Washington, D. C., Ottawa, Ont., and London. Two hundred and fifty-one varieties are listed as eligible to compete for prizes in plate exhibits and there will be cash and other premiums and diplomas for exhibits of apple butter, jelly, marmalade, cider, vinegar, preserves, pickles and evaporated and sun dried fruit and other by-products. There will also be demonstrations by domestic science departments of state colleges.

The amusement features, to which the state armory is to be devoted during the festival week, will consist of two concerts daily by a military band of international reputation and promenade music by bands of the Inland Empire and the Northwest, also programs by vocal and instrumental soloists, quartets and choruses and numerous vaudeville acts. There will be receptions, theater parties and dinners, and a banquet in honor of the exhibitors, judges and visitors, which is designed to bring together the most successful growers and authorities on apple culture in the world. The closing feature will be the choosing and crowning of the queen of the festival and the coronation of the apple king of the continent. The queen is to be chosen by popular vote, while the winner of the largest number of prizes will be crowned as king.
