From The Baltimore American.
SONG.
Tune—'Cease rude Boreas.'
The spirit of the pathless ocean,
Britain vainly thought she held.
And to pay her flag devotion,
All the world would have compelled
But Yankee Tars, with resolution,
Swore they'd yield to no such laws,
And HULL, on board of the Constitution,
Nobly did support their cause.
Boastingly three flags displaying
Dacres swept the azure main,
And 'long side, the Guerriere laying
Look'd upon our ship as ta'en.
But thund'ring cannon soon proclaimed,
That Columbia scorn'd to shrink.
And the Guerriere, shattered, maimed,
Saw her triple ensign strike.
Dacres found he in vain contended
With Hull, Columbia's free-born son,
And speedily the contest ended,
By firing his submission gun.
Gallant Hull, our country's glory,
May'st thou still victorious prove;
Long preserv'd in martial story,
Thy fame shall flourish with our love.
